What to Consider when Budgeting for a Trip to the Super Bowl

First and foremost, the cost of a Super Bowl ticket can vary greatly depending on the location of the seat and the team playing. On average, ticket prices can range from $3,000 to $10,000 or more. This means that even if you're able to snag a ticket, it could cost you a significant amount of money.

In addition to the cost of the ticket, there are other expenses to consider, such as travel and lodging. If you're flying to the game, you'll need to pay for airfare and transportation to and from the airport. If you're driving, you'll need to factor in the cost of gas, tolls, and parking. Once you're at the game, you'll need a place to stay, which can be quite expensive depending on the location of the stadium.

Food and souvenirs are also a consideration. Super Bowl events and the game itself will have high prices for food and drinks, similarly souvenirs and merchandise will also be significantly marked up.

It's also important to remember that the Super Bowl is one of the most heavily attended events of the year, so you may also need to factor in additional expenses such as security, event fees, and taxes.

All in all, attending the Super Bowl can be an incredibly expensive endeavor, and one that requires careful planning and budgeting. If you're determined to go, it's important to start saving early and to be aware of all the costs involved. It's also a good idea to research deals and discounts that may be available to help offset some of the costs.

Attending the Super Bowl is a once in a lifetime experience and can be an unforgettable memory, but it's important to be realistic about the costs involved and plan accordingly.

Using Money Managment Skills for Budgeting for Budgeting a Super Bowl Trip

Students love applying budgeting concepts to the biggest game of the year. Planning a trip to the Super Bowl requires research, a spending plan, and know-how. This is a great activity for students who need an opportunity to practice making and staying inside of a budget. Spending plans are sometimes boring, but the Super Bowl is never boring. This resource is effective for virtual learning settings and includes a link to share the worksheets in Google Slides, as well as for face to face setting using printable black and white worksheets in PDF format.

This activity can be done individually or in small groups of three to four students. The budget amount is variable, so the teacher will determine the amount of money that can be spent on the trip before giving the assignment. This is an added element that heightens the fun, because if one student/group is given an amount that is much higher than other groups, competition sets in, but it opens the door to great discussions about the nature of a budget and how they are not the same from one person to the other. Essentially, one group or student might end up with a very extravagant trip, while others might end up sleeping on the floor somewhere just to get to the game! Of course, there is always the option for assigning the same budget for the whole class.

Before completing this activity, students should know what a budget is, understand how different categories of spending are part of the plan and know how to calculate percentages.
