I Have a Dream!

This is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and I have a dream! I have made the decision to dream it!! My dream is that all students will someday have access a financial education and that those who are teaching it would be confident in their skills, training, and resources. Students deserve to be prepared and empowered to create a solid financial future!

Too often, we hesitate to go after our dreams because of fear! “What I find is that most people are just wandering through life and afraid to dream real dreams because of good old fashioned fear. Fear paralyzed all of us from time to time. But when you truly make a conscious decision to dream like never before you will slowly conquer many facets of fear and your life takes on a whole different meaning.” Todd Romer, author of “Young Money.”

Here is an example:

This is my nineteen year old daughter. She is currently living her dream.

She decided over a year ago that she was going to go to the Dominican Republic to teach English to elementary school age children. She went to school full-time and worked at Dillard’s fragrance bar to save money to pay for this experience. She saved money on her housing costs by being an RA. She saved money on tuition with a scholarship. She worked and went to school all during the summer months, when her friends were having fun. She learned about sacrifices. She sacrificed to get ahead to live her dream. She earned her Associates Degree in a little over a year so she wouldn’t be behind on her education while she is away for four months.

Was she fearful? Heck yes!! Especially when it came down to stepping on the airplane, but she didn’t let it stop her! She is a great example of pushing through the fear and letting her dreams live!!!

This is what I and dream for my own children and my all of my students!! I want them to know that they can do anything they set their mind to! I hope they can unleash the power in their dreams and take action to make them happen!!

Here are some activities available in my TPT store that will help students identify their dreams and make an action plan to accomplish them.

Individualized lesson to help students get to the heart of their dreams and generate the motivation to take action and plan for the future!
